Samer Sarkis Wins Gold for Lebanon in Men’s Skeet at Taranto 2026
A historic performance as Lebanon secures its first gold medal of the Mediterranean Games
Lebanon has proudly celebrated a historic moment at the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games, as national skeet shooter Samer Sarkis captured the gold medal in the men’s individual Skeet competition, delivering a remarkable performance on the international stage and bringing glory to Lebanon.
Competing at the TAV Torricella shooting range in Italy, Sarkis demonstrated exceptional concentration, consistency and composure throughout the competition. In a highly competitive field featuring some of the region’s finest shooters, including Olympic champion Gabriele Rossetti of Italy, the Lebanese athlete remained focused when it mattered most.
In the decisive final, Sarkis hit 32 out of 36 targets, edging Türkiye’s Muhammet Seyhun Kaya, who finished with 31/36, while Cyprus’s Nicolas Vasiliou claimed the bronze medal with 28/32.
The victory was particularly significant for Lebanon as it marked the country’s first gold medal of the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games. The International Committee of Mediterranean Games highlighted Sarkis’s triumph as Lebanon’s opening gold of the Games, making his achievement an important moment for Lebanese sport as a whole.
